Penny Grant lived at Marley Manor, an old country house, she couldn’t go out to work as she had to care for her widowed father and the houses upkeep. Her friend Jane Ellison, who lived in a block of flats came up with the idea of working together, using the Grants grounds and outhouses to look after people’s pets while they were away. Caring for the variety of pets gave Penny an interest as well as an income and Jane was able to indulge in her love of animals.
