Rachel Riche and Penny Poore

Plot:

In the 1740s, Penny Poore lives with her Uncle Barnaby, warder of Marshalsea Prison. He is a cruel man and Penny feels just as much a prisoner as the inmates, whom she tries to help in any way she can. Simeon Riche is brought to the prison for debt and asks to keep his daughter Rachel with him. This request is granted, but they need money to pay for the father to be put in more comfortable conditions than the common cells. As Rachel is not technically a prisoner, she is allowed to go out to raise the money, and she strikes a friendship with Penny.
