A Father for Frances

Plot

Frances Duke lived with her widowed mother who suffered with arthritis. While doing her paper round Frances met Bain a visitor from the planet Um Rika, who offered to marry Mrs Duke and become father to Frances. After several misunderstanding Mrs Duke was coming around to the idea.

The Story of Mairi Macintyre

Plot

Mairi Macintyre was a serving maid at Culloden House before the battle of Culloden in April 1746, when Prince Charles Edward Stuart’s highland army was defeated by government troops. The Prince had given Mhairi his dog, Rowley, to care for and she rescued his injured horse, Hero. She hoped to return the animals to the prince who was fleeing William Duke of Cumberland’s troops. Unknown to her he suspected her plan and was following her hoping she would lead him to  the prince.

The Lost Champion

Plot

Kate Crawford, a British tennis champion lost her memory after a road accident in the US. Badly injured her appearance was altered with plastic surgery and another girl’s body was mistakenly identified as Kate. Given the name Virginia Britton, she tried to start a new life and had gotten a job at an exclusive tennis club. There she made an enemy of young tennis star Laurel Morley.

Poor Penny Perkins

Plot

Penny Perkins had started a career as a singer and hoped to make money to help her widowed mother. An agent named Mrs Miriam Judd promised to make Penny a star, but Penny discovered too late that she had been tricked into signing a contract that gave Mrs Judd the right to nearly all her earnings.

Maddie Hatter

Plot

Maddie Hatter was spy mad and Hazel Harris was delighted when she came to St Hilda’s school. But Hazel thought Maddie had gone too far when she accused Miss Gaunt the PE mistress of being an agent and vowed to foil Miss Gaunt’s plans.

Punch and Judy the Terrible Twins

Plot

As long legged Storkie Allen was too tall to ride ponies she took on the job of driving a pair of ponies for Mr Meade the milkman. Her aim was to make twin horses Punch and Judy a perfect pair, unfortunately out of  their harness the ponies did not get along at all.
