Break-Up! [1989]

Plot

Beverley Brunton was not only top of her class and good at sports, but she was also very popular with her classmates. Only one girl didn’t like Bev -Hazel Thomson. When Hazel overhears that Bev’s parents are splitting up, she takes joy in telling Bev and she implies that neither of her parents want her.

Sharon’s Secret Sister / Sarah’s Secret

Plot

Pam Roberts was being fostered by the Taylors when she discovered that Sharon James, a girl at the Children’s Home next door, was her sister. Sharon was delighted and hoped to share Pam’s foster family. They decided to say nothing yet, to make sure the Taylors wanted Sharon for herself. But Pam had no intention of letting Sharon join her.

In the reprint Pam Roberts is renamed Sarah Roberts.

The Truth about Tricia / Eye Spy Trouble

Plot:

Kim Cartwright realises that Tricia Hudson, who has been living with the family since her parents’ deaths, is faking blindness to get anything she wants. Tricia is also playing dirty tricks to push Kim out and take her place in the family. But Kim cannot prove it because Tricia is too clever to be caught out. The situation reaches the point where the parents decide to send Kim to boarding school.

Orphans of the Storm

Plot:

When the pleasure steamer Storm founders, the only survivors are a handful of wealthy children and a maidservant called Tweenie (who had sneaked aboard). The children are taken in by fishing folk who exploit them and are out to profit from the fund that is being set up for “The Orphans of the Storm” as the press have dubbed them.

Our Very Own Princess!

Plot:

Zelda Smith works with her cruel uncle and aunt in a fake mind-reading act and is billed as Princess Zelda. She runs away and is befriended by some urchins who take her for a real princess. She maintains the pretence to keep herself in hiding.
