A Ticket for Taffy

Plot

Aileen Shaw’s family had to emmigrate to Canada after her father’s business failed. Mr Shaw’s brother offered pay for tickets for family, but couldn’t afford a ticket for Taffy, Aileen’s adored pony, so she was determined to earn money herself.

  • Has a similar plot to A Ticket for Timmy written by Maureen Hartley, though in that story the animal was a sheepdog.

Peri of the Ponies

Plot

Peri Wills was a girl with a special way  with ponies. She had the chance of attending a first-class pony school and there she learnt a great deal. But through a misunderstanding, she had to leave before taking her instructor’s certificate. Her longing to be with ponies led her to take an unpaid job at a ramshackle riding school kept by Mr and Mrs Hopkins.
Peri started to groom one of the ponies.

Annie’s Ark

Plot

Orphan Annie Bright is in charge of the menagerie belonging to Chipper’s Circus. Annie has a deep affection for all animals. In turn, the animals trust Annie. A new venture begins for Annie when the animals are hired out to do “acting” jobs.

Puppy Love

Plot

Lauren Dean has always wanted a pet, but it was not possible as her family live in an apartment block. Then Dad changes jobs and the family move into a cottage, where Lauren can have a pet at last. A stray dog adopts Lauren, and Lauren names her Spot. Spot dies, but not before she has given birth to three puppies, who become Lauren’s new pets.

Diana’s Dark Secret

Plot

Diana Sefton is an excellent gymnast at Linwood School despite being completely blind. When she regains her sight after an accident, she keeps it a secret because she cannot bear to part with Goldie, her guide dog. But her conscience keeps niggling.
