Nat Durrant, a botanist, and his daughter Avril found a strange flower called the purple trumpet floating in a river in the Himalayas. Shingo a native servant said it was dangerous and he was proved right when the natives of Yatung village who had been caring for the plant were all affected by a strange sleeping sickness. Nat set out to search for the White Cactus as its juice was said to to cure the sickness. After he left a party led a man by the name of Braun, arrived by helicopter looking for the source of the plant and planned to take Avril hostage. She and Shingo escaped and went searching for her father to warn him.
