Little Miss Busyfingers

Plot

It is the end of World War II. All the other evacuees have left the Larches, home to Misses Daphne and Edith Burntree. Vi (Violet) Lambeth has stayed on because the housekeeper, Mrs Porter, is kind to her. But then the Misses Burntree sack Mrs Porter and start using Vi as an unpaid servant. They also get rid of the piano Mrs Porter left Vi as a gift, so Vi has to find other ways of playing the piano. And Vi has to contend with bullies at school as well.

Secret Star!

Plot

When rising pop star Jeff Collins loses his voice, he owes his agent Mr Winter a lot of money. Mr Winter wants his money back and insists Jeff perform despite his illness. Jeff’s twin sister Jodie takes his place in secret. When Jodie finds out what an unpleasant man Mr Winter is, she decides to investigate his dealings with Jeff.

The Hands of Helga

Plot:

Peggy Castle was forced by a pair of ghostly hands to work on a harp sonata begun by  the long-dead Helga, sister of the mysterious Miss Ingall. Miss Ingall told Peggy, Jane, her friend, and Doctor Roberts that when the sonata was finished she would claim it as her own but afterwards the three could remember nothing of this. Peggy dreamed again and again that she threw herself down a well.

Pip the Piper

Plot:

Sally Reid and her friends at Elmdene School form an orchestra to compete in a school’s contest. Pip Piper has a strange old  German instrument with seven lettered keys. When she plays on one key, frogs appear. When she plays on another, cats follow her. Sally decides Pip is a modern Pied Piper.

Little Miss Music

Plot

Moira Trent is a talented flutist. She is being abused by cruel relatives who are after the money she will inherit when she turns 18. Moira’s only hope is James Antrim, a famous flutist who once promised to give her help if she needed it, but she needs to find him. So she goes on the run to do so.

Little Mother

Plot

Mr and Mrs Malden, an elderly couple who have no children of their own, have taken ten orphans into their home, Malden House. The eldest of these is 13-year-old Betty Baker, a talented violinist. On the day that Betty learns she has won a scholarship to the Academy of Music, the Maidens are seriously injured in a road accident. The Welfare authorities want to separate the children, sending them to different Homes but, led by Betty, the children fight the idea. Betty has promised the Maidens that she will keep the children together and is willing to sacrifice her scholarship so that she can fulfil this promise. She manages to persuade the authorities to allow her to try to run Malden House, and bravely sets about her task.

Trombone Tillie

Plot

Tillie is the youngest and only female member of the Beverley Band. She is also a daughter of an Earl, her father lets her play with the band on the condition  that none of her family find out about it.
