I Want to be a Swot!

Plot

Development for a new motorway threatens the home of Jenny Coney and her grandfather, along with others. Their only hope of saving their home is a book that has been in the family for generations. But the book is in Latin, so Jenny is compelled to go to the local school to learn Latin as quickly as possible so as to translate the book. Meanwhile, the PE teacher Miss Callister realises Jenny has a natural talent for hurdling and begins training her up for events.

Sail-Away Cindy

Plot

Cindy Rivers, in whose father owns a boatyard in Brightsea, wins many of the sailing races she enters in her dinghy,”Sail-Away.” Hilda Bellamy, whose father also owns a boatyard, is Cindy’s greatest rival. In the local regatta, Cindy and Hilda tie in an important race.

Limping Laura

Plot

At the age of ten, Laura Leyburn suffered an attack of polio and, although she recovered physically, she was afraid to try to walk with-out the aid of a stick. However, Miss Driver, Laura’s headmistress, not only persuaded her to walk unaided, but to take up athletics as well! Now, at 16, Laura is an up-and-coming hurdler and being coached by Mr Sampson, secretary of the Stirton Athletic Club. For winter training they have the use of a hangar at a Royal Air Force base.
