Della Dolwyn does not win at anything like her sisters Helen (ballet) and Elaine (swimming) and receives constant put-downs because of this. Della resolves to win at something. She settles on synchro swimming and sets out to form a team in secret.

Plot:

Diane Lucas and Carolyn Fisher, see a synchronised swimming show while on a school trip and are interested in learning more about it.  A local councillor hires on  Dot Cameron as a second coach at the swimming pool. The team become the Mermaids.
