The Ghost of Greystones

Plot:

Generations of Martins had been  loyal servants of the Errinton family at Greystones. When housemaid Betty Martin was unjustly dismissed for stealing a valuable pendant, she returned secretly to a hidden room in a bid to clear her name. Betty’s plan was to impersonate the house’s legendary Grey Ghost and she hoped, in the process, to uncover the real thief.

Cat Conway

Plot

Acting under the instructions of the sinister  Burglar, and in order to save her captive twin sister, orphan Cat Conway used her skill as a gymnast to steal the Crown of Carranowa. The police questioned the gymnastics team who had stayed the night at Linklight Hall, opposite the art gallery from which the crown was stolen.

Hannah in the House of Dolls

Plot:

Disguised as a crippled waif, ten year old Hannah Weston had taken a job in a strange doll shop. The shop was owned by Mrs. Scradget and  Hannah gains her confidence so she can investigate the shop and secretly help the young children who are made to work in the shop.  She discovers Mrs Scradget  drains the children’s strength, transferring it to the dolls,  so the dolls can be used to rob rich homes.

Lucy Lariat

Plot

She called herself Lucy Lariat because she didn’t know her real  name, and because she was so good with a rope. Since her parents had been killed by Indians, she had been brought up by Ruben Rothwell, who trained Lucy and other children to steal for him. Lucy had stolen a horse from the Tracy ranch, but when she returned to steal a beautiful white horse, she saw a cougar about to attack it. She lassoed the cougar, and it clawed her leg. Thinking Lucy had saved their stock, Jim Tracy and his daughter, Diana, put her up for the night and made a-fuss of her.

Ma’s Kids

Plot

In 1840, Daisy and Katie Brown are looking for the Swans, friends of their recently deceased mother. They are taken in by Ma Harris who had trained a band of thieves and expected the girls to earn their keep the same way. Daisy managed to earn money by singing but Katie, to young to understand, was becoming an accomplished thief.
