Annie

Plot

Annie Shepherd, an orphan loved children so was happy to find employment as a nanny. The stories were set in the early 20th century and followed her in different jobs. One such  post  was with Mr and Mrs Hamilton who had one child Harriet, aged 7. Harriet was desperately unhappy and hated her parents, but would not say why.  At another household  the father wants his daughters to be proper ladies, but this causes trouble.

Plot

After Sandra Smith’s parents separated, she and her mother moved to Minfield. But to her dismay, Sandra discovered that her Dad had moved too—he was the new Headmaster at Minfield comprehensive. Until she and her Mum were permanently settled in Minfield, Sandra felt that neither of her parents should know the other was in the same town.

Plot

The Riddle of the Lost Heiress

Plot

Joe and Bertha Castin, caretakers of Kenwood Hall, take Evvy Collins from a fairground and start training her up to impersonate Lady Evelyn, who mysteriously disappeared seven years ago at the age of five, so they can claim the Kenwood fortune. But the deception is not going well, and things get even more tangled when Evvy begins to find clues as to her real identity.

No Pity for Paula

Plot

Paula Travis is a cripple whose disability is exploited by her Aunt Mildred and Uncle Herbert. They force Paula to work as a beggar and profit from her earnings. The exploitation depends on Paula staying crippled – so things begin to change when Paula starts taking secret ballet lessons from Miss Freeman and her legs improve.

Ten Against The Tryptons

Plot:

Long Barrow School had been invaded by girls from the planet Trypton, and placed under a “Dome of Blackness” cutting it off from the outside world. Trypton would soon no longer support life, and the girls had been sent to test the intelligence on Earth. If the ten chosen Long Barrow pupils proved to be inferior to their Trypton counterparts, then the invaders from space would come to Earth as rulers.
