Plot
Midnight, a jet-black colt, lived in the Cumberland hills with Silver, a mare who had mothered him after his own mother was captured. Jenny Kelso, a shepherd’s daughter, had saved Midnight from serious injury when he was trapped by his leg, but the pony couldn’t forgive her for shutting him in an isolated sheep shelter on the moor. It was necessary to do so because two men, Jim Taylor and Sam Holmes, were trying to capture Midnight to sell him.
