  1. Has anyone got a copy of Chill Out they could perhaps scan for me? I’ve been looking for it for ages!

  2. Hello,

I’m new to this site and not good with IT stuff, so apologies if this question is not allowed.

I have been searching for several stories which I think were in The Mandy, but may have been in Tina Annuals (not sure tbh).

There is a story I read as a child which has always resonated with me and I think of it often whenever I feel the same way as the girl in the story….

It was about a fat girl who was good friends with another (thin) girl in school and always did things together until a new girl arrived and muscled in. The larger girl always followed her “friend” who always took the lead but was pushed out when this new girl arrived. In another scene she was made to drink sharp lemon juice by her Mum who said it would help her to lose weight. One day, she was walking along the road and helped an old lady who had either fallen or dropped her shopping. She helped her home and the old lady invited her into this really old, shabby home but inside, it was stunningly beautiful. The old lady gave the girl a pep talk on how to do her own thing and not worry about the other girls and she followed through and ended up losing all the weight she was carrying, enjoyed successful activities and was happy doing her own thing. I think the moral of the tale was don’t read a book by its cover and don’t waste your time following behind people who don’t give a rat’s for you and be a success in your own right.

That is about as much as I can remember although I have tried to give as much details as possible, but does anyone remember this story and what it was called and where I could find a copy to buy?

    Many thanks for your time.

  3. Hi Cheryl, happy to help if I can. I don’t have complete list of stories but can check if anything matches. As you mention possibly in Tina as well I’m assuming this would be from the late 1960s. I don’t have any Tina comics but I’ll check trough my Mandys first.

    1. Thank you so much for your reply and very much appreciated. It’s literally been driving me nuts for years! When I said “Tina”, I meant “Princess” although I think it may have changed it’s name, but I don’t really remember.
      Thank you again! 🙂

      1. Both Princess and Princess Tina produced annuals. I’ll check through the books for late 60’s/early 70’s to see if I can find anything.

It sounds to me rather more like a Mandy story than Princess/Princess Tina. I’ll check the first few Mandy annuals also (they started in 1971).

          1. I’ve checked the Princess/Princess Tina and Mandy annuals up to 1975, but I’m afraid I didn’t find this story. Hopefully, Lorrsadmin will have better luck.

          2. I haven’t ad any luck either, I also checked Mandy annuals from 1976-79.
I checked Diana annuals from 1965-1979 as I know there are some diet/losing weight stories but none fitted your description.

Was it possibly a serial story, rather than one complete in an annual?
Can you narrow down timeline you would have been reading?

  4. Aw, that’s a shame, but thank you so much for your efforts 🙂 I can’t think what other comics/ Annuals they could have been in because Mandy and Princess/Tina were the only ones I had. Thanks again though. I really appreciate your time spent on this.

  5. It’s very strange that it’s not coming up anywhere (but then, your memory can be skewed from a child to an adult). I remember watching an episode of The Avengers as a child, where a killer clown was going round killing people – only when I grew up, I realised the episode was from The Persuaders, not The Avengers.

I’m (almost) positive it was just one complete story (not the picture ones where you have one picture per scene), but now I’m doubting myself. It’s so infuriating! But it must have been an Annual rather than the comics themselves. I was born in 1962, so it would have been around 1970 onward (I think!).

Again, thank you both so much for your efforts. You’ve both been very kind spending your time on this. If I remember any more, I’ll let you know.

    1. Keep watching this space, Cheryl. I have a feeling that I’ve seen the lemon juice scene somewhere, so I’m going to have a wider hunt among the annuals.
