  1. The photo in Best Friends was taken from Cousin Carrie, a Bunty photostory about a visiting cousin who proves troublesome.

  2. I wonder why the ghoulish shapes changed to hands as they reached for Sarah. In the original they are still ghoulish shapes when they do that. Maybe they were reflecting Sarah’s constant grabbing for whatever she wants?

    1. Thanks, that was bugging me, where I saw the photo before! As for Selfish Sarah, artistic choice probably, but that could be a good interpretation!

    2. Selfish Sarah is darkly ambiguous as we don’t know what happens to her in the end. Was she eventually rescued from the plant or trapped forever? I wonder if it may have even killed her by strangling her with its vines.

It’s all up to speculation, but I suppose such a dark ending where she obviously pays for her selfishness with her life would have been considered far too intense for the young girl readers.

  3. The first The Four Marys story is an updated version of one that was in the Bunty Golden Age Classic Stories book (with a pink and white stripy cover) while the second The Four Marys story is an updated version of one that was in The Best of Bunty Annual book.

Regarding Decisions, Decisions and Foul Play!, both of which have the same girl playing the protagonist in each photo story, other occurrences in which the same models are used in 2 different photo stories are In the Picture! from the Mandy 1999 annual and That’s Life! from the Bunty 2000 annual. The only exception is that the model playing Katie in That’s Life! does not appear in In the Picture!

    1. Good spot, it does seem they liked to reuse scripts but modernise the art at times. I certainly recognised some familiar faces popping up in different photo stories. Also in some articles or text stories there were photos that were reused.

      1. The second Four Marys story (the one about the owl and hedgehog) was first published in the 1989 Annual. This first version of the story had art by Andy Tew.

        1. I bought the Bunty 1989 annual from eBay recently, but the Four Marys story is missing from it, so I have placed a bid for another copy hoping that one will be complete. I might as well use the copy I currently have for arts and crafts.

      2. Even though In The Picture! and That’s Life! have most of the same models, the model playing the grandfather in TL doesn’t appear in ITP while the girl playing Kelly in ITP and Carla in TL has a different pair of friends in each story.

      1. You’re welcome. Another photo story where I think characters’ names got mixed up was Computer Crazy in the Bunty 1999 annual. I assume Emma’s boyfriend is called Ant and Rachel’s boyfriend is called Kev as mentioned at the beginning. Parts of the story where I think Ant and Kev were mixed up are when Emma says she has to phone Kev, Rachel says that Ant will look cool in a top Leonardo DiCaprio is wearing and Emma reads Ant’s horoscope.
