Bunch and Judy

Plot

Judy Jordan who had ambitions to be a show-jumper, owned a pony called Bunch, so named because Judy’s father said the pony looked like a bunch of different breeds all bundled up together.

Firebrand

Plot

Shelley Davies, an orphan, had been given a home by Lady Patricia Vernon, a distance relative. Anthea, Lady Vernon’s spoilt daughter, was unwelcoming to Shelley, but Shelley stayed because of her interest in Firebrand a neglected pony once owned by Anthea. With help from Mr Jackson,the gardener, Shelley was making progress with Firebrand’s training.

Petronella

Plot

Twins Gail and Sarah Harcourt had run away from their boarding school to search for their pony, Petronella. The pony had been mistakenly sold to a slaughterer, pooling their savings and selling their possessions, the girls had raised £100 reward for anyone who had seen Petronella, and were on their way to see someone who had replied to the advertisement. But, on the journey, their money had been stolen.

Gipsy on the Move

Plot 

Gipsy a 7 year old pony was sold by his owner, Lyn, as her mother could no longer afford to keep him. After a brief spell with a girl named Di,  Gipsy was sold to a riding stables and later was knocked down in a road accident, by a father with his young girl.

Caramia Can’t Stay…

Plot

Caramia is a pony at the circus, she loves Lucy the circus owner daughter who looks after her. But then the circus has to be sold and Caramia to be auctioned off. Caramia does not want to go to a new home she wants to stay with Lucy.

Pat among the Ponies [1958]

Plot

The senior girls of Moordown Riding School are completing the last stage of their cross-country initiative test and must return by a certain time. Pat Farley is among them, but things go wrong and they go off course.

A Pony Called Punch [1959]

Plot 

Punch is the leader of a pack of Welsh Mountain ponies. The local people are conducting their annual roundup of the ponies and keep trying to round up Punch and his herd. Punch is constantly eluding them, but eventually they capture him and intend to sell him as a pit pony.

A Ticket for Taffy

Plot

Aileen Shaw’s family had to emmigrate to Canada after her father’s business failed. Mr Shaw’s brother offered pay for tickets for family, but couldn’t afford a ticket for Taffy, Aileen’s adored pony, so she was determined to earn money herself.

  • Has a similar plot to A Ticket for Timmy written by Maureen Hartley, though in that story the animal was a sheepdog.
