Voiceless Valley

Plot

Olwen Peters and her classmates were competing as a choir in the Abervale Singing Festival under the leadership of Margaret Tarrant, a young woman who wished the choir to sing her late father’s unpublished music for the first time. The choir had had to practice in secret, as singing was forbidden them by Mrs Pugh, who owned the village and valley of Llanbryn where they lived.

Peggy the Police Girl

Plot

Young Peggy Jones joined the police force as a Police Girl Cadet. She was sent to the village of Melrick, where she took up lodgings’ with the village policeman, Constable Gregson, and his wife. Lady Merlick is not sure she is up for the job, but Peggy impresses her, when she stops a purse snatcher that had taken Lady Merlick’s bag.

Bess of Black Fell

Plot

Bess Turner wanted to turn her inheritance, Black Fell Farm into an  animal sanctuary, but it was haunted by Elda, a witch drowned by the people of Charn village four centuries before. The present-day villagers wanted Bess to fill in the pond, but some swans nested there, and Bess decided to drain it to another place nearby. Dickon Hayter, whose ancestor Elda had loved, tried to help her, but the angry villagers stopped them. The villagers grew even more hostile after the church bell began ringing by itself.

The Girls of Sparrowgrass Creek

Plot:

Jill and Jenny Carter lived with their father in a small boatyard at Sparrowgrass Creek. They help out in the local village, such as helping an old woman from losing her home to a conman.
