Hayley in the House of Fear

Plot

Hayley Russell is spending  an un-expected holiday with her aunt  Adelaide in a gloomy house on a cliff which is gradually crumbling into the sea. Every night her aunt  signals out to sea with a lamp and waits for a mysterious person  to appear. Hayley is anxious to solve the mystery.

The Lonely Nightingale

Plot:

Cheryl Morgan and her widowed mother have moved to a new town to be near a hospital where Mrs. Morgan is to have an operation to save her sight.  Cheryl  has made friends with Mrs. Ashbridge who has heard her sing and promised to help her get special training.  Her mother forbids Cheryl to see Mrs. Ashbourne, as she believes she was involved in her husbands death.

Marina of the Black Panthers

Plot

Marina is a gipsy girl with the gift of second sight, which saves a racing driver Tony from injury. Because of this she has been adopted as mascot of the Black Panthers racing team.

Lorna at Court

Plot

Lorna Butterwick is an imaginative schoolgirl who writes historical pieces for the school magazine. When she falls asleep she travels back in time (although there is ambiguity to whether it is all a dream or not), and is able to take notes about the particular period of time.

The Girl Who Wouldn’t Give Up

Plot:

After a car accident Josie Cooper’s artist mother loses her ability to paint.  They are conned by a man who claims he knows a Swiss doctor that could help her. They sell the house to cover the costs only to arrive in Switzerland with little money and find no such doctor exists.

Orphan Island

Plot

Chris Warren is a teacher that lives on an island where the only two children left are her brother and sister.  She starts to bring orphans to the island, as without children the future life of the island is in danger. She has some run ins with Dame Isobel the head of community and has problems settling some of the children but she perseveres.

Ann’s Sad Secret

Plot:

Ann Baxter, a surgeon’s daughter, finds out that her classmate , Shirley Soames, the most unpopular girl in school,  has a dangerous heart condition. She decides to befriend Shirley but she must keep her knowledge of her heart condition a secret no matter what.
