The Murphy family pay a rent for their small farm in Ireland once every ten years! But the rent has to be paid in the form of a huge cheese made by old Ma Murphy, which is then taken to the owner of the land, Lord Macken, who lives in Ballyclough. When Grandad Murphy hurts his back, his four orphaned grandchildren, Mary, Sean, Peter, and Peg volunteer to deliver the Big Cheese.
