Sisters at Selby

Plot

When Susan Transom’s mother married Roberta Caldwell’s father, Susan had to join Roberta at Selby Hall boarding school to let her mother travel with her new husband, whose work took him all over the world. However, Susan was upset at being sent away and was doing her best to be expelled. Roberta had guessed what her stepsister was up to, but was finding it hard to make her change her mind.

Oh, Brother! [1987]

Plot

Penny Brown couldn’t wait to meet her new stepbrother when she learned that her mum was going to marry again. Expecting Damon would be someone all her friends would fight over, Penny was very disappointed to find that Damon was short, fat and childish. He was also selfish and made himself a nuisance by always following her around.

No Boys for Brenda

Plot

Brenda Jackson, an  orphan, was given a home by her Aunt Louise. But she soon discovered that her aunt, who had suffered an unhappy marriage, was determined Brenda should have nothing to do with boys.

  • This story originally concluded in issue #1447, but some episodes that were produced were not published at this time. Instead there were 7 episodes published a few months later with the tagline “All-New Stories” and the following explanation in the summary box “No Boys for Brenda was so popular that we’re printing some previously unpublished stories from the last series.”
  • As these later issues take place in the middle of the story, in issue #1474 a summary of the ending and  the last 4 panels of the original ending are printed.

Dana from the Deep

Plot

Eleven-year-old Dana West had been adopted after she was discovered as a tiny baby abandoned on the seashore. One day, while at the beach, a voice from a sea shell told Dana that she was really one of the Sea-people and must return to the sea before her twelfth birthday. If she disobeyed the summons, she would have to pay a terrible penalty.

Secret Sister

Plot

Caroline Harvey lost her parents in an accident when she was four years old. Her elder sister, Amanda was adopted and Caroline had not seen her since. Caroline herself was adopted and her new family went to live in Gorley, a town some miles away. When Caroline started at her new school, she discovered that the new English teacher, Miss Kemp, was her long-lost sister.

Plot

Plot

Delphi Lucas was unhappy when her dad sent her to Olympia College, where everything studied, recreations,and even the food was Greek. Hurting her foot on a cross-country run during a strange electrical storm, she found herself among girls dressed like ancient Greeks. She met a man who claimed to be Hermes, ancient messenger of the gods.

“I Don’t Want to Win”

Plot

Donna Martin was partly deaf and  because of her hearing, found it hard to take part in things. While her sisters were both quick and lively, Donna only wanted to be left with her simple pony, Snipper, but her mother had bought her a new jumping pony as a surprise. Donna was horrified when she realised that having Jet would mean selling Snipper.

Before I Sleep

Plot

Clarrie Green had been abandoned  on the steps of an orphanage by her mother, who had never returned to claim her. When Lady Cathcart visited the orphanage. Clarrie realised that she bore a strong resemblance to the picture of Clarrie’s own mother, which she had in a locket. Clarrie, ill and realising she had only a short time to live, managed to get herself taken into Lady Cathcart’s household as a kitchen maid.
