The Luck of the Lumsdens

Plot:

Four girls, Jonquil, Rose, Primula and Marigold, have to survive when both their parents die. Jonquil is an actress and is away with her company so she doesn’t knowing about her mother’s death, as Rose cannot get in touch with her. Rose leaves school but finds it hard to get a job because of her age. She also has to impersonate Jonquil whenever Mrs Forsyth, the welfare lady, comes round, otherwise the two youngest will be taken into care.

Sheila on Skis

Plot:

Sheila Dark lived in the town of Highfield, where she worked as maid in a hotel. She had one passion in her life —skiing.

Look After Lucy!

Plot:

Just before she died, Lucy Leigh’s stepmother  asked her daughter, Pam, to ” look after Lucy!” But, instead, Lucy had to look after Pam, who became lazy, extravagant and dishonest. Pam’s behaviour went from bad to worse, Lucy even sees Pam shoplifting.

Lonely Lotty

Plot:

Lotty Laing, a boarder at Abbeyfield School, was very shy, but, when she tried to make friends, she couldn’t help seeming snooty and conceited,so nobody liked her. Then she was falsely accused of stealing and ” put on trial ” for the rest of the term. Brenda Brown and her friend,Sharon O’Hara,were determined to make Lotty’s life miserable. Their latest plot had ruined Lotty’s midnight feast.

Debbie Must Dance Again!

Plot:

Orphan Debbie Tate and  her young brother, Peter, were being looked after by their greedy Aunt Betty and Uncle Joe. Hoping to claim compensation money for Debbie’s car accident injuries, they forced her to pretend she was a helpless cripple. However, Debbie had once taken ballet lessons and was able to resume her dancing in secret. After a Ballet Festival, in which Debbie had danced using the name Karen Foster, a ballet teacher called Felicity Dale showed an interest in her. Debbie was going to meet Felicity when she discovered that Peter had run away. During her anxious search for him, she realised that Felicity’s train had left.

The Spoilt One

Plot:

Rich, spoilt,orphan Stacey Berridge, living in the England of 1935, bullied Anna, a kitchen-maid into helping her run off on a day trip to Calais. But, on the same day, Mireille Duval, a young jewel thief who was Stacey’s double, escaped on her way to a reformatory. She knocked Stacey down, stole her handbag and made off, leaving Stacey in the hands of the gendarmes, who were convinced that she was Mireille.

Search the World Over

Plot:

In 1800, Emma Jennings, unaware that she was the true heir to the rich Ferney estate in England, was searching for her foster brother, Tommy, who had been transported to Australia for stealing pheasants’ eggs. She had travelled through the wild bush country with Mrs Hillingdon, her daughter, Amanda, and their armed servants, acting as their maid and cook. The Hillingdons found Emma too useful and wouldn’t let her go, blackmailing her by saying that they would accuse her of stealing her own mule, Ebenezer, if she left in search of her brother.
