The Wilsons Who Lived in a Shoe

Plot:

In Victorian times, when Peech’s Funfair closed down, the Wilson children’s father lost his job. He left for London and didn’t return. Scared of being put into an orphanage by their unsympathetic landlady, Annie Wilson and her younger brother and sister. Nicky and Sara, ran away and set up home in The Shoe, an amusement in the funfair. However, when they were confronted by the police. Nicky gave himself up in order to save his two sisters.

Sheila and her Shires

Plot

After losing both parents in a car crash,  Sheila Robson was living with her grandfather, Mr Steel, at the farm where he bred Shire horses. He had never forgiven her mother for running away from home as a teenager, so he made no attempt to make her feel welcome.

Sally’s Little Sister

Plot

Ann Graham was trying to save her little sister from an antique doll, Bettina. Bettina had once been one of a pair of sister dolls—but the dolls had been parted and only Ann guessed that Bettina was trying to turn Sally into a doll to replace her own big sister. Ann had stolen Bettina’s “sister” from a museum in order to reunite the dolls, but, under the influence of Bettina, Sally had gone missing from hospital.

I’ll Bring Robbie Round!

Plot:

Becky Castle’s brother, Robbie, was competing in an athletics  event when a carelessly thrown discus caused him to fall into a coma. Becky resolved to make a taped collection of sounds connected with his favourite activities in the hope that hearing them might help him recover. Her plan aroused considerable interest at the hospital where Robbie was a patient.

Witch Hazel

Plot

Young Hazel Withers was a member of a family of witches, but she had trouble with her spells, partly because she could not read very well. The family sent her to Grandma’s old school in England, and Grandpa turned himself into a cat to go and keep an eye on Hazel. But Whiteways School had changed since Grandma’s day, and it was now a reform school for tough girls!

The Thirteenth Girl

Plot:

Superstitious Fern Jackson was dismayed to learn she was the thirteenth new pupil that term to start at the famous Rivoli Ballet School. Realising she would need some good luck on her side, she sent home for Pogo, her lucky teddy bear — but the parcel wasn’t delivered to Fern because another girl had thrown it away.

Plants of Peril

Plot:

Some huge thistledown floated into Paula Gates’ hotel room and her friend Marge Main, wanted to show it to botanist Dame Sybil Smith. But when the girls went to Flagge Manor, where they thought the botanist was staying, it was denied that she was there. On returning to the hotel the girls found that one of the thistle seeds had taken root and was growing at an alarming rate.

Beth and the Bells

Plot:

Susie and Beth Barrow were staying with their Aunt Mary in the seaside town of Barlington while their parents recovered from a road accident. When Beth disturbed the spirit of a local witch, Black Bess, while exploring an old bell tower, Susie realised that the spirit of the witch entered Beth whenever she heard a ringing bell.

Cinderella Jones

Plot:

A humorous update on the Cinderella story. Cindy Jones’ widower father had married again and taken Cindy to live in Brightsea. Cindy’s new stepmother owned the Happyholme Guest House and made it plain Cindy would have to work hard for her keep while her stepsisters, Isobelle and Sarah, did nothing.
