Orphan Jemma Ward, was taken in by her older brother and sister, but then she found out the only reason they had taken her in, was to meet the condition in their Uncle’s will to inherit his home.

The title reminds me of another story, probably Tracy, where an alien encounter damages a girl’s eyes. They fix the damage with a healing lotion, but tell the girl she must not cry for a month or she will lose its effect. And guess what keeps happening during that month?
