Anna, the Animals’ Friend

Plot

Anna Martin loved her job with the Animals’ Protection Society. The town where Anna lived were having their biggest argument  for years. The River Board had suggested some of the swans on the river should be shot and there had been a storm of protest following the decision.

Donna’s Donkeys

Plot:

After a trip to the seaside, Donna Williams returned with an old donkey which had been cruelly treated. Her parents were dismayed and put her story to the local newspaper in the hope of finding the donkey a new home. Instead Donna is left a hundred donkeys by an old woman who ran a donkey sanctuary and read the newspaper article before she died.

Bringing Up the Barkers!

Plot:

When the rough and ready Barker family inherited Janner Hall, Walter the Dalmatian, who was part of the inheritance was appalled. Then Aunt Flo Pooter arrived and began smoothing off their rough edges and Walter was better pleased. He considered her to be one of his “own sort”.

Plot:

Eleven Year Old Sally Wilson was the proud owner of a pet any schoolgirl  would envy – Pootsie, a tame but cute seal.

Penny Grant of the Pets Hotel

Plot:

Penny Grant lived at Marley Manor, an old country house, she couldn’t go out to work as she had to care for her widowed father and the houses upkeep. Her friend Jane Ellison, who lived in a block of flats came up with the idea of working together, using the Grants grounds and outhouses to look after people’s pets while they were away.  Caring for the variety of pets gave Penny an interest as well as an income and Jane was able to indulge in her love of animals.

Peg of the Peaks

Plot:

Peg Duncan, an orphan, was determined to turn her dog,  Shep into a champion sheepdog. When Peg lost her job on Major Keane’s estate, her Uncle Dan told the girl who would have nothing more to do with her. Peg set out to prove she could manage on her own, after coming second in a Sheepdog Trial, she started to work with Mr Evans of Westdale Farm.

Carey’s Chickens

Plot

Red Indian raiders had killed Carey Lane’s parents and destroyed their farm, so she was travelling to the Rocky Mountains to find her brother Crispin. Her only companions were a horse, a dog and two dozen chicks.
