The Go-Getters

Plot

Terry Brown and Carol Blair, two sixteen-year-olds, set up in business on their own when they left school. Their job was to try to obtain anything which their clients might request. Some of these were quite unusual requests, such as when 2 children come in to ask for new legs for their mother. Terry and Carol figure out the issue that their mother has to walk with aids and struggles to get to their top floor flat. The girls solve the problem not be getting her new legs, but pairing her with a client that needed a cook, a live-in job that came with a a ground floor flat.

Plot

Polly Wentworth and her friend, Janey Adams, worked in Pets Corner at Castle Rock Zoo, where they had to look after most of the small animals.

Plot

Sally Stevens was to be on call to her clients at any time in any emergency, and she called her service “Emergency 666”. She arrived at the office every morning ready for anything.

Peggy the Promette

Plot

Peggy Morrison was the youngest member of the Promettes, a group of girls employed by the Corporation of the seaside town of Whitesands. The Promettes’ job was to patrol the
promenades and beaches, giving help and advice to the summer visitors.

Peggy the Police Girl

Plot

Young Peggy Jones joined the police force as a Police Girl Cadet. She was sent to the village of Melrick, where she took up lodgings’ with the village policeman, Constable Gregson, and his wife. Lady Merlick is not sure she is up for the job, but Peggy impresses her, when she stops a purse snatcher that had taken Lady Merlick’s bag.

Penny the Post

Plot

Young Penny Hughes lives with her  grandparents in the small welsh village of Llangower. Her grandfather is postman and, when he becomes ill, Penny sacrifices her chance to go to university so that she can take over the job as postman until he is well again, thus keeping the job open for him.

Plot

Bella Brown took up babysitting to earn money for a family holiday. She soon found there was more to the job than she expected!
