Third formers, Carol and Sally ran a weekly magazine for their school, Westford.
Netta Norris worked as a reporter for the Stickleford Gazette, a small country newspaper run by her Uncle George. She was helped in her work by Sam, the office dog. Only Netta knew that Sam was actually Sam Bates, a former ace newsman, who had been turned into a dog after an unfortunate incident with an alien spaceship.
The boys and girls of Woodleigh Comprehensive School were running a newspaper for their town. It was called the Woodleigh Crusader. Tim Garside, a sixth former, was the editor, and Karen Brown was the star reporter
Jill Stevens was a trainee reporter on the Mudpuddle Gazette and had been given a pony called Rube as an advertising gimmick. She had to cover the area around Mudpuddle in search of news stories and features. But Rube was a bit of a character and often gave Jill trouble.
