The Silver Stallion

Plot

Lucy Lawson’s father was the new veterinary surgeon at the Welsh town of Derrycoed. During a visit to her friend’s hill farm she had encountered the legendary silver stallion, a handsome Arab horse which ran wild at the head of a herd of Welsh ponies. The stallion had injured a leg and Lucy had installed it in a cave, hoping to get her father to tend to its injury. But Lucy’s father announced that he had been given orders to destroy the stallion if it were ever captured

Fleet of the Fells

Plot

Since the death of her parents, Gail Ridley had lived with her grand-father on his remote farm, high on the fells of Northern England. Though fond of Gail, Grandfather was a stern old man, increasingly troubled by attacks of rheumatism. Life was hard, and money was short.

Plot

When Jennie Weston’s parents discovered her twin sister, Julia who was thought to have been drowned as a baby, was actually alive and had been brought up in a Children’s Home, Jennie happily looked forward to sharing everything with her sister. But Julia seemed to have different ideas—she was out to grab all she could for herself—at Jennie’s expense!

She Shall Have Music

Plot

Morna Richards was very fond of music, and  was delighted when a strange old woman gave her a lute. While playing the lute, Morna and a friend saw a flash of lightning and were mysteriously transported into medieval times. When they returned to modern times, the lute had changed into a fiddle!

The Castaway Class

Plot

During the Second World War, after the ship in which they were on while escaping from Singapore was sunk by Japanese bombers, eight survivors reached a desert island. These were Miss Radcliffe, the head-mistress of a posh boarding school, six of her pupils, and a stowaway called Betty Smith. Betty was the only one of them with any idea how to survive away from civilisation. Miss Radcliffe—a stubborn, snobbish woman-took advantage of Betty and treated her as a servant. Several times Betty had the feeling that they were not the only ones on the island, and that they were being watched.

Little Miss Moneybags [1982]

Plot

Orphaned Shirley Richards was living in Cedar Lodge Children’s Home.  She was amazed when Mr Brown, her father’s solicitor, told her that her parents had left her a fortune. Shirley wanted to be fostered, but she decided to keep her wealth a secret until the right foster parents were found for her.

Robbie’s Rovers

Plot

There were two football teams in the town of Bayford — the snooty Apollo and the Rovers. Live-wire Roberta Page, whose three brothers played for the Rovers, was hoping that the Rovers would win the Brent Cup. She felt sure this would cheer up their injured organiser and trainer, John ‘Fallon, who was in hospital.

The Champion from Nowhere

Plot

On returning home one evening, Helen and  Mike Kirby discovered a girl lying on their doorstep. The girl could remember nothing of her past, not even her own name, but she proved that she was a fine athlete. The Kirbys called the girl Anne, and promised to look after her until she was claimed.
