The House of a Hundred Eyes

Plot:

Melody King has been left a house by her Great  Aunt Ethelreda on condition that she also looks after the fifty stray cats that live there. Unfortunately, Mrs King is allergic to cats, so she and Melody are living in the summerhouse in the grounds, but a mysterious woman helps to care for the cats. Cousin Lawrence, who wants to turn the house into a club, is determined to turn out Melody and her mother. Melody is convinced that he is the cause of Mrs King losing her job in Mrs Baines’ shop.

Marty’s Fight with Nicola/Marty and the Missing Cats/ Marty and the Riding Lessons

Plot:

A text story that follows the adventures of Marty Potts and her friend Sally Ann, each story had its own title. In Marty’s Fight with Nicola, Marty has a fight with her arch-enemy Nicola Denham in the local churchyard. The Reverend Wilkinson passes the matter to the girls Headmaster to deal with. In Marty and the Missing Cats, when cats go missing in the village where Marty stays, she and Sally-Ann, are determined to find out why. Suspicion rests on Ricky Bryant, who is in Marty’s class at school and has recently taken up taxidermy—stuffing animal skins. Marty is curious about a cupboard in Ricky’s shed…

Mandy of the Mobile Zoo

Plot:

Mandy Cooper and her father visit the big  town of Blakely once a week with their mobile zoo, so that city children can learn more about animals. Mandy is also often asked for help and advice about the children’s own pets.

The Lame Ducks

Plot:

Tessa Dane, crippled by her stepmother’s cruel treatment, goes to live on her Uncle Henry’s farm, where she determined to train Tina, a young sheepdog, although she, too, is crippled. Uncle Henry makes Tessa a “Wheelaped,” which enables her to get about. On returning from her first trip in the machine, Tessa finds Uncle Henry’s van crashed into a tree and he has disappeared.lame ducks

Roka of the Reindeer

Plot:

Roka is a young Lapp girl whose family depends  on its herd of reindeer for a living. One day her father is accidentally shot and her mother sets off with him on the long sledge drive to the hospital, leaving Roka and her two brothers, Nils and Mikkel, in charge of the reindeer herd.

Hannah and Herbie

Plot:

Hannah wakes up in a caravan with her dog Herbie and no memory at all. Her parents Rita and Jack Peacock say they are travelling traders, but then Hannah uncovers a clue to a different story about her past and sets out to unravel it.

Lonely

Plot:

After her parents’ deaths, Anna Jackson goes to live with her half-brother and his wife. But Anna soon finds they don’t care about her and she gets even more lonely because she does not know anyone in her new town. Then Anna comes across a sett of orphaned badgers and finds friendship in caring for them.
