Plot

Orphan Sarah Larkin had won a scholarship to the Blakewood School of Dance and Drama but because on er first day she was badly dressed and awkward the other girls led by Julia Fane called her “Scarecrow”.

“Becky Bright Must Go!”

Plot

Becky Bright won a scholarship to the exclusive Cavendish Hall School. She fell foul of Jane Manderley and Lisa Somers, two snobbish girls who made their minds up to get rid of her. Becky made a friend who appeared to be ordinary but was actually Lady Constance Bower. Jane and Lisa were aware of her title but Becky wasn’t.

The Unwanted One

Plot

Molly Harkiss, a village girl, has claimed the right to free education at exclusive Didbourne Manor School, a right that is one of the conditions of the grant of land to the school. But the snobby girls at Didbourne do not make Molly welcome and plot to get her expelled.

Anne of the Green Table

Plot

Anne Collins, the first-ever scholarship pupil at Renton College, was disappointed to  discover that her favourite sport, table tennis, was not played at her new school. The snobby girls at Renton College looked down on Anne, so she decided to join a Youth Club in the nearby town of Hillcrest, in order to make new friends, and play the game she loved.

The Alice Band / Brampton’s Big Noise

Plot

When Alice Allen started teaching at Grimshaw Girls’ School, she started a band with her students. The girls had named the band after their new teacher and entered a Brass Band Contest. One of the girls, Chris Wilson, showed particular talent and Alice encouraged her to apply for a music scholarship.

In the sequel, Brampton’s Big Noise, the story follows Chris Wilson who had won the scholarship to Brampton College of Music. She had come up the hard way, and had made two enemies at college – a couple of snobs Prue Fletcher and Gwen Terry.
