The Girls of Pen Friend Academy

Plot

Kate Anderson taught Geography at  Hillcrest High School for Girls, and ran the school’s Pen-friends Club. Thanks to the generosity of a wealthy local resident, the members of the club had been able to invite their pen-friends from all over the world to spend three months in England.

Checking up on the world-wide agencies of  Comet Cosmetics, the vast beauty aids business owned by her Aunt Penelope, was the task given to young Tilly Pringle. She was accompanied by Melinda, her aunt’s personal assistant, who always seemed to have a solution for every problem.

Plot

Miss Alice Shipton was a new teacher at Whilley Grange School. She was also a new witch, and while she was a learner, she was allowed only —three spells a day. This often led to hilarious results. The girls in Miss Shipton’s class were the only people who knew her secret.

Big Bernie

Plot

Fairway was a home where nine children lived happily in the care of their house parents, Mr and Mrs Glover. One day, a large St Bernard dog arrived and refused to leave. Enquiries failed to find his owner and the children named him Big Bernie. Bernie soon won all hearts, and the children hoped to keep him for ever.

Slave of the Silver Chain

Plot

Melinda James and Nora Hope, two young skaters were about to star in an ice musical of Snow White in the brand new Ivyoak Ice Theatre. Melinda was playing the title role, Snow White, while Nora had been cast as the witch. However the rink had been built oon an ancient oak grove where a coven of witches met every 7 years. This meeting was to take place the same night as the show so the witches set out to stop the performance. One of the witches, Alicia, bound Nora to her will by means of a sinister silver chain.

Plot

Beware of the Bird!

Plot

When Carrie Yates offered to look after a stray  cockatoo until the owner claimed it, she soon found that she had taken on more than she had bargained for. Not only did Chico often land them both in trouble, but two men; Sam Sloper and Ned Ruffin, for some reason of their own, were trying to get their hands on Chico.
