The Scarecrows of Spooky Hollow

Plot

The Ferris family who’d recently taken over Fortune farm in the village of Spooky Hollow had been warned by a retired farm hand, Willie Burford, not to meddle with the two scarecrows which had been protecting the farm for years. Jody Ferris had uprooted one of the scarecrows however – and now life on the farm had become a series of accidents.

Annie – on the Way to Wimbledon

Plot

Sponsored by the Heyword Sports company, Annie Lawrence had won a scholarship to the Aouthlands tennis school. After being couched by ex-Wimbledon star, Fran Naylor, Anne had done well and made it to the finals. Annie’s opponent in the final was to be her old enemy Justine Darcy.

Cathy of Curls & Co.

Plot

16 year old Cathy Jarvis was looking after her mother’s hair dressing salon, Curls & Co, while Mrs Jarvis was in hospital. Cathy uncovered a plot by a businessman called Mr Mantel to force Mrs Jarvis to sell the salon to him. Kay the senior assistant was involved so Cathy had fired her, but then she finds out Kay was being blackmailed by Mr Mantel.

The Fire Raiser

Plot

Tracy Burton was suspected of having caused a fire at Hollington Comp School, where a teacher, Miss Abbott was killed. Tracy had not spoken since the night of the blaze and her family moved her away. Two years later when the school was nearly rebuilt, Tracy ran away from home. The police feared that she had returned to the school with the intention of setting it on fire.

Hardluck Hannah

Plot

Hannah Wilkins lived with her brother Joseph and her greedy selfish sister in law Nancy. Hannah had a job in a sewing factory and though Nancy didn’t work she made Hannah do all the household chores too. Hannah joined a club for working girls run by Miss James, but Nancy finds out and spoils that for her too

One Girl And Her Dog [1987]

Plot

A selection of short stories about different girls and their dogs. In one story, Rachel a shy girl convinces her parents to let her have a small timid puppy she names Ringo. Sticking up for Ringo builds her confidence and they win at charity dog show. In another story. Lindy takes in a stray dog, which her mother isn’t happy about because all she cares about are her pedigree poodles. She is grateful for the stray when he saves them all from a fire and happily his owner sees the story in the paper.

The series returned briefly in Bunty. The first story involves an abandoned Scottish terrier that ends up rescuing a kidnapped girl. The second story has a girl, Karen having difficult time accepting her dog Scots old age and failing health. The final story, Casey’s dog, Pickles, is well behaved and good. but seems to cause trouble where he goes because he is just too adorable an people want to pet and hold him.

  • The series had short run in both comics, in both cases it was it was likely used as filler before it’s merger with other comics. Suzy finished with issue 249 and merged with Bunty. Then Nikki merged with Bunty in issue 1652.

Plot

Tennis ace Sharon Randall was absolutely obsessed with the game, but her friends Nikki and Jess didn’t share her fascination. They tried to interest Sharon in other things but she found it hard to appreciate anything which didn’t involve tennis and usually ended up on her own…

The Curse of Crawley Moor

Plot

With her dying breath, many centuries before, an evil witch Regina, had vowed that six black horses would bring destruction to the village of Salem, on Crowley Moor, every hundred years. When Julie Carton found out about the curse she decided she must break it. The only way she could do it, was by taming the six stallions which ran wild on the moor.

The Rich Kids

Plot

The only rich thing about Kate and Pete Rich, was their name until their Grandad, with whom they lived with since their parents died, won a fortune on the pools. Grandad was determined the win wouldn’t change their lifestyle, but the Rich Kids had other ideas.
