Karen and Kim

Plot

Karen’s father is a policeman. She wants a police Alsatian dog, so Dad gives her one, Kim, for her 13th birthday. Soon after, he dies of a heart attack. Unfortunately Karen’s stepmother is against her having Kim. And when Kim is accused of killing sheep, Karen runs away with him.

One Girl And Her Dog [1987]

Plot

A selection of short stories about different girls and their dogs. In one story, Rachel a shy girl convinces her parents to let her have a small timid puppy she names Ringo. Sticking up for Ringo builds her confidence and they win at charity dog show. In another story. Lindy takes in a stray dog, which her mother isn’t happy about because all she cares about are her pedigree poodles. She is grateful for the stray when he saves them all from a fire and happily his owner sees the story in the paper.

The series returned briefly in Bunty. The first story involves an abandoned Scottish terrier that ends up rescuing a kidnapped girl. The second story has a girl, Karen having difficult time accepting her dog Scots old age and failing health. The final story, Casey’s dog, Pickles, is well behaved and good. but seems to cause trouble where he goes because he is just too adorable an people want to pet and hold him.

  • The series had short run in both comics, in both cases it was it was likely used as filler before it’s merger with other comics. Suzy finished with issue 249 and merged with Bunty. Then Nikki merged with Bunty in issue 1652.

No Dogs Allowed [1986]

Plot

When Colonel Voler banned dogs from Britain in the 1990s, Meg Brown set out with her dog Floss and her three pups to join her father, a wanted resistance worker in Portsmouth. She was pursued by security officer Gritten who hoped to trace her father and destroy the dogs.

The Dog Next Door

Plot

Different stories told each week involving dogs next door each story has a new title. The first story “Old Glen” a dog that takes his neighbours doll, later saves her life. In “The Beach Buddies” a spoilt actress is jealous of her dog co-star.

Servant of the Sacred Dogs / Maid of the Lion Dogs

Plot:

In ancient China, Linyi is maid of the Chinese Emperor’s Dogs, known as the Lion Dogs. She faces big trouble if anything happens to them – and each week, something does (illness, being naughty, going missing etc) – and she has to use quick wits to solve the problem as fast as possible.

Million-Pound Mutt

Plot

Linda Morgan’s dog, Mutt, has been left a fortune by Mrs Fraser. Relatives of Mrs Fraser hire Fred Snell, a private detective, to spy on Linda to ensure she sticks to the conditions of the will.

A Dog’s Life for Debbie (1981-1982)

Plot

Debbie Bruce has cynophobia (fear of dogs) because she was bitten by a dog as a baby, and  she is too ashamed to explain the problem. As a result, the phobia is causing constant misunderstandings, ruined opportunities and other problems for Debbie.
