Sarah Laing’s Ambition

Plot:

Sarah Laing, an orphan, lived at Hardlea Farm with her Uncle Silas who was her guardian. Sarah’s ambition was to become a famous actress like her mother, but Uncle Silas hated anything to do with the stage. Sarah was attending a summer drama school at nearby Carlin Castle and was making good progress, despite attempts by her uncle to prevent her from going. The head drama teacher was to give out parts the following day for an important play, but Sarah’s uncle had ordered her to stay at home to cut the corn.

Hedda of Hosannah Valley

Plot:

Amos Calthorp and his party of pilgrims had reached the sheltered vale in America which he named “Hosannah Valley”.  America was still a British Colony and the settlers were given grants of land where they immediately set about building houses. Hedda Bronsby’s father, Daniel, was in demand, being a skilled carpenter.

Girl Friday

Plot:

A shipwecked girl reached an island where a group of boys were on a survival course. They named her Girl Friday, thinking they now had a servant. Friday had other ideas, however. girl friday
