The Secret Servant

Plot

Sarah Armstrong’s cruel uncle took over her old home after her father died and his current will left everything to the uncle. There is a new will, which leaves everything to Sarah and her mother, but it is in the house somewhere and there are only three months to find it. Sarah disguises herself by dyeing her hair and takes a job as a servant in the house to find the will. In the meantime, Sarah is finding how hard the life of a servant is.

Big-River Belle

Plot

Fourteen year old orphan, Belle Kelly, lived with her aunt and uncle on their small farm in the state of Kentucky, in the 1830’s. Belle’s relatives were mean, grasping folk who had taken her in only for the work they could get out of her. Her only friend was Mungo,the mule.

Plot

Thirteen year old Bonnie Clyde was maid of all work for her Aunt Deirdre, Uncle Terrace and spiteful cousins Marcia and Faye Desmond. Bonnie’s luck seems to be changing when her beautiful voice won a holiday camp talent contest with a group formed with her cousins, though Marcia and Faye saw themselves as the stars.

The Secret Life of Governess Grace

Plot

After their father was lost at sea, Grace Miller and her sister Ruth were unhappy and badly treated in the home of their rich uncle, shipowner Phineas Vivian. To earn their keep, Grace had to work as governess to her spiteful young cousins – and to pay off a debt of £100, left by her father, Grace secretly took an evening job playing the piano and singing at the Galaxy Music Hall.

Faith and her Friend

Plot

Eleven year old orphan Faith Lowin lived with her Uncle Sid, her  Aunt Lizzie, and cousins, Alfie and Jasmine. Everyone treated Faith like a slave. As well as doing all the housework Faith had to work hard in her uncle’s junk yard. Faith’s only friend was a stray cat which she called “Friend”. Alfie and Jasmine had tried to kill Friend, but Faith managed to save him.

The Many Faces of Morna

Plot

Under the stage name of Aurora Daye, Morna Reynolds entered the ” Search for a Superstar” Contest—unknown to her nasty guardians, her Uncle Gerald and Aunt Sybil. Performing in disguise, Morna had reached the semi-finals, beating her unpleasant cousin, Pat, on the way. When Morna accidentally added salt instead of sugar to the ingredients she packed for Pat’s school cookery lesson, the spiteful Pat became determined to cause trouble for Morna—in any way she could!
