One Girl and her Dog [1983]

Plot

A peaceful loch-side had been horrifically interrupted when mysterious killers staged an “accident”, from which the only survivors were a girl who had lost her memory and the dog she relied on to protect her. Now the girl and her dog were walking down a shadowy street in a northern city.

Sally Says…

Plot:

Sally and Sue Orchard were twins (in the reprint they are named Sally and Jenny Buchan).  Following an accident, which Sue believed was her fault, Sally had lost her power of speech and become very nasty. Sue used a telepathic link that existed between the girls to speak for her. But now, Sally could force Sue to behave badly, too, and Sue had become very unpopular at their boarding school.

The Dolls Who Loved Dina / Puppet Love

Plot:

Dina was heartbroken when her beloved, father died and she was left in the care of her greedy, bad-tempered Aunt Sylvia. Her aunt was determined to exploit Dina’s skill as a puppeteer and forced her to continue running Dad’s traveling puppet theatre. Secretly the puppets were trying to help Dina.

Before I Sleep

Plot

Clarrie Green had been abandoned  on the steps of an orphanage by her mother, who had never returned to claim her. When Lady Cathcart visited the orphanage. Clarrie realised that she bore a strong resemblance to the picture of Clarrie’s own mother, which she had in a locket. Clarrie, ill and realising she had only a short time to live, managed to get herself taken into Lady Cathcart’s household as a kitchen maid.

House of Fear

Plot

Rich young heiress Diane Revell,  is terrified by the strange things which happen in her home, Dagwick House, at nights. Her guardians, Aunt Grace and Uncle Ramon, believe she is only having nightmares and the local doctor is treating her for that. Then Diane befriends runaway orphan Janice Maltby, who promises to help Diane uncover the truth. Jan hides in a secret room behind Diane’s bedroom wall.

I’ll Bring Robbie Round!

Plot:

Becky Castle’s brother, Robbie, was competing in an athletics  event when a carelessly thrown discus caused him to fall into a coma. Becky resolved to make a taped collection of sounds connected with his favourite activities in the hope that hearing them might help him recover. Her plan aroused considerable interest at the hospital where Robbie was a patient.

The Spoilt One

Plot:

Rich, spoilt,orphan Stacey Berridge, living in the England of 1935, bullied Anna, a kitchen-maid into helping her run off on a day trip to Calais. But, on the same day, Mireille Duval, a young jewel thief who was Stacey’s double, escaped on her way to a reformatory. She knocked Stacey down, stole her handbag and made off, leaving Stacey in the hands of the gendarmes, who were convinced that she was Mireille.

The Revenge of Verna

Plot:

Verna Villiers bore a secret grudge  against her relatives, the Hayden family and vowed revenge on them for refusing to help her father who had died in poverty. After Verna set up a jewel robbery at Hayden House, the family faced financial ruin. But the woman crook who had been tipped off by Verna was found and brought to the house, in an effort to identify the informer.

Cybela

Plot:

Mysteriously transported  back to the present day from the overcrowded world of the year 2079, Cybela and her dog, Dee, were given a home by Gill and Paul Benson. At the house Paul had inherited from his uncle, Sir William Benson, Cybela learned that Sir William had made a breakthrough in time travel that could solve the population problems of her own time. Searching for the secret, Cybela found a hidden room, but was interrupted by Mrs Markham, the – mysterious housekeeper.
