Wendy Blake, an orphan, lives with her Aunt Hilda and her spiteful cousins, Alison and Joe. Wendy has one burning ambition— to become a ballerina. One night, on her way home from ballet practice, Wendy helps an elderly lady, Miss Bell, who has been attacked by thugs and gets her to hospital. This incident makes Wendy late in arriving home and her aunt, in a fit of temper, tears up Wendy’s most precious possession—on autographed photograph of Anya Vardun, the famous ballerina—and forbids her to go back to ballet lessons.
