Stand-In Star

Plot

When young star Linda Lynn became ill, a look-alike was found to attend Linda’s engagements so that Linda’s high earnings would not be lost. Linda’s manager, Amy Meecher, swore look-alike Glenda Garrod to secrecy and promised she would be well paid. The real Linda was at a secret nursing home.  Glenda wasn’t going to give up her new life easily.

The Scarecrow Kids

Plot

Without asking her parents Kelly Barker had taken a pony to save it from slaughter. Knowing that her parents would forbid her to have a pony of her own, she hid it in a disused railway sidings, but then, her parents had discovered her secret. They came to an agreement to give her a month and if she didn’t come to them for money and if the pony wasn’t neglected she could keep him.

Plot:

Picture-Story Polly (1989)

Plot

Polly Jones is an avid reader of the girls’ comic “Candy”. To improve herself she copies the characters in the strips (chef, humane worker, actress, athlete, etc), but she blunders each time and gets herself into scrapes.

Alison’s Uncles

Plot

Alison Greaves is living in a Children’s Home when she finds out she has four uncles. To decide which one will be her guardian she is trying each uncle out in turn. The first three uncles don’t work out: the first was just after her money; Alison met a jealous, scheming cousin with the second; and the third was uncaring and just looked on Alison as a novelty. So it all comes down to whether the fourth does.

Bad Penny (1987)

Plot

Boastful and selfish Penny Thorpe had stolen  an old coin from a blind man. It was having a bad influence over her life, spoiling her chance to join school swimming team. She made sure the old penny was well and truly buried when a road outside he school was relaid — but, soon afterwards, Miss Melbury,the swimming teacher, had a road accident and Penny got the coin back.

“Choose Me!”

Plot

It seemed as if twelve-year-old Gail Fraser was finally going to be adopted when she left the Children’s Home to live with Mr and Mrs Elliot. Then, Lauren Banks, who had recently lost her parents, came to live with the Elliots too. Gail overheard them say that one girl would have to go. Gail vowed that it wasn’t going to be her.
