Ten Tasks for Toni

Plot:

Toni Townsend, a brilliant young gymnast, had been  treated as a slave by her rich Aunt Libby until, on a summer cruise, they were kidnapped by natives who believed Toni to be a white goddess called Artanza. Unless Toni carried out 10 tasks successfully, she and the other cruise passengers would be killed. Then Toni found that the high priestess, Jana, was trying to kill her.

Joanne and the Challenge

Plot

Joanne French is the new games mistress at the Harold  Plackett School. The Headmistress, Miss Crossley, is against games and has challenged Joanne to get the hockey team into the finals of a local tournament or have games cut from the syllabus. But the team does well, and the Head arranges an accident—to keep Joanne off the sports field.

Our Class

Plot:

Cherry Bright, narrated the story about her class Form 1-A at Southlands School for Girls. Along with her two pals, Clem Sanders and Pam Stringer, they think that their class is the best in the school, but not everybody agrees with them. So they were tickled pink when they realise the class stood a good chance of winning the Doubles Shield in the school tennis tournament,  with their star players being Gwen Fielding and Rose Hedgley.

Fair Wind for the Fourth

Plot:

Expert sailor Peggy Black is  teaching her friend, JoanneBranson, captain of the Fourth Form at St Claire’s, to handle a dinghy. The two girls have been challenged by Joanne’s cousin, Chip Graham, to a race, and on a training trip, some of Chip’s friends maroon the girls on an island by towing away their dinghy.

The Courage of Kim

Plot:

Kim Dale has the task of retaining Yeoman’s Isle, her family’s home, by swimming round it in accordance with the conditions of a 12th-century charter, although she is suffering from an ever-increasing paralysis which she fears will immobilise her. Kim has discovered that the present landlord, the Mayor, knows of treasure on the island and is trying to force the Dales to leave. She, her brother, Dick, and her friend, Sally, try to find the treasure in a secret cave, but lose their boat in an avalanche. When two of the Mayor’s men come to the cave, Kim, Dick and Sally try to escape in their boat

The Challenge

Plot

While Shirley Templar and Wanda Lee are on holiday to France, their money is stolen. When they ask Shirley’s Uncle George for help, he accuses them of lacking initiative. The two girls are determined to prove him wrong and reach England alone. Afraid that he will land in trouble with the girls’ parents for letting their daughters down, Uncle George chases them with the help of his friend, Inspector Dupois. Shirley and Wanda reach the French coastal town of Dauphin, which is packed with crowds waiting to see the French swimmer, ‘Marcia Capeau, make an attempt to swim the Channel. While they are looking for a boat to take them to England, Uncle George and Dupois spot Wanda.

Rita the Record Breaker

Plot

Rita Rodgers was determined to get her name in the Gainless Book of Records, but so far her record breaking attempts were unsuccessful.

Notes

  • The Gainless Book of Records is clearly a substitute for Guinness Book of Records, maybe name was changed due to copyright or potentially so they were not advertising alcohol.

A Riddle for Rona

Plot

Heiress, Rona Farrell who was an orphan, was always willing to help a good cause. But she usually lost interest in the scheme before long and got distracted by something new. When Rona asked her guardian, Sir William Farrell, for money to help a riding school for disabled children, he agreed on the condition she carry out certain tasks which were set out in the form of rhyming riddles.

The Tests of Terry

Plot

Terry Maxwell, a pupil at Blacktoun Secondary  Modern School, lived with her Aunt Hilda and had become interested in the Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Award. But Dusty Merton and Teddie Barnes, two tough girls at the same school, were determined to prevent Terry from winning the award and staff members of the school weren’t encouraging either.
