Alison’s Uncles

Plot

Alison Greaves is living in a Children’s Home when she finds out she has four uncles. To decide which one will be her guardian she is trying each uncle out in turn. The first three uncles don’t work out: the first was just after her money; Alison met a jealous, scheming cousin with the second; and the third was uncaring and just looked on Alison as a novelty. So it all comes down to whether the fourth does.

The Saving of Sister Susie

Plot

Orphaned sisters Jane and Susie Miller were given a home by their greedy Aunt Margo and Uncle Harry. Jane was used as an unpaid servant, but was more concerned about her aunt and uncle’s plans to exploit Susie as a child model.

Plot

While trying to shield her cousin, Amanda,  Trudy Timms was wrongly accused of stealing money from the Headmistress’s study. Her father, shocked to think his daughter had forgotten the family motto, “Honesty Above All”, sent her away from Meadowlands School to Grimstock Grange—the School for the Expelled!

The Dark World of Sally Dean

Plot:

When Sally Dean loses her sight, she is sent to Mill Bank Home for the Blind. The headmistress, Miss Lancaster, seems to be harsh, but she secretly has kind reasons for her severity.

Liz of Little Barton / Microgirl

Plot

When people mysteriously left the village of Barton, Liz James discovered that they had actually been shrunk to a few inches high and kept prisoner in a model of Barton Village by the sinister Professor Raikes. Liz rescued her friend Ann Carter and they had to decided to keep the truth about Little Barton a secret until they found away to bring all the prisoners back to their proper size.

A sequel, Microgirl appeared in Judy & Tracy where Professor Raikes returns and shrinks Liz and her parents. Liz manages to escape the mobile laboratory where Raikes is keeping them prisoner.

The Guardian Tree

Plot

In 1840, the Shaw children are orphaned and Rose, the eldest, is left in charge. They move into a cave in the roots of a tree they call the Guardian Tree because it seems to watch over them, protect them and give them advice and comfort in their fight for survival. They also have to keep their tree home secret from Matthew Crowe, the Parish beadle who means to put the younger children in the workhouse.

Plot
