After Jane Croft’s parents die, she is taken in by her Uncle and Aunt. But Jane’s cousin Carol does not want to share her home with Jane, so she pretends to be friendly while playing tricks to get rid of her.
Freda has always been jealous of Joyce because she is a kind, popular girl. So when Joyce suddenly moves back to the neighbourhood, Freda pretends to be friends with her while secretly causing trouble for her. Joyce soon realises she has an enemy, but does not suspect Freda.
On the day Jan Patterson’s little brother, Neil, was to have the plaster removed from his injured leg, the doctor discovered a complication and ordered the plaster to be retained. Jan felt responsible, as Neil had fallen from his chair while in her charge. Realising that Jan felt guilty, Neil rook advantage of his position and blackmailed her.

Pam Roberts was being fostered by the Taylors when she discovered that Sharon James, a girl at the Children’s Home next door, was her sister. Sharon was delighted and hoped to share Pam’s foster family. They decided to say nothing yet, to make sure the Taylors wanted Sharon for herself. But Pam had no intention of letting Sharon join her.
In the reprint Pam Roberts is renamed Sarah Roberts.
Unknown to her parents, Susan Dixon discovered that her sister, Tina, was adopted. The two girls did not get on well, anyway, so Susan began to plan to make her parents get rid of Tina.
