A strange disease which affected the bird life of Britain seemed connected with a screeching noise. Naturalist Adam Falconer, with his daughters Chris and Mandy, and Ian Sinclair, a government official, were making by train for London to investigate the noise, when a horde of owls invaded the driver’s cabin as the train approached a red signal.

As a result of the Earth passing through the tail of Valdor’s comet, a tidal wave sank a school cruise ship. Only twelve youngsters survived and they drifted in a life boat to an island where all the inhabitants had mysteriously died. When the town had become too unhealthy to live in, the survivors built two huts in the country. The Survivors began to realise they could be the only people left alive in the world.

In 2020, Flash Point, in America, was the base for Project Star Flash, designed to send a rocket to the stars. Ten girls, the clever daughters of brilliant parents who held important posts in the project, attended a special, advanced school.

Roma and her friends, the Wilderfolk, waged war against The Seeing One, the computer that ruled the city of Megalopolis. They were helped by The Wand of Freedom, a carved staff with strange powers that had belonged to Mara, the leader of an earlier revolt against the computer. Some of the citizens of Megalopolis escaped and joined the Wilderfolk who planned to extend a tunnel into the city as far as the Hall of Government, which housed the computer.
Helen Tate and the other girls who were pupils of Madams Lamarr’s ballet school were on tour, proving Madam. Lomarr’s claim that she was bringing together the greatest, ballet company in the world. The girls did not know that their new-found skills had been transferred to them from leading ballerinas. Madame Lamarr and her assistant, Karl, made each transfer with a strange machine. Now, the brilliant new stars were a sensation, wherever they went.
As babies, twins Marris and Merri had been washed onto the shore at the Welsh village of Porwen and found by Daniel Hughes, a fisherman. Around the babies’ necks had been fine, unbreakable chains. As the girls grew, so, mysteriously, did the chains. Apart from this they seemed normal girls. Nobody knew that they could swim underwater for miles or that they could communicate with the sea creatures. There was a problem in the village as for weeks the fishermen had returned to harbour each day, without a catch.
The twins return several times, like when sea creatures in the waters by Porwen, mutated into monsters and attacked the villagers. Merri and Morris, the strange sea-children with remarkable powers, returned to help their adopted village. When Morris was trapped by a giant oyster, Merri called to the far-off Wise Ones of the Deep for help as she struggled to free herself from mutated seaweed.
Another time an unknown element had poisoned all the shellfish off the coast of Porwen, and several unexplained disappearances had occurred. Merri and Morris, had discovered aliens living in a transparent dome on the sea-bed. The Twins had made a pact with Zakon, the leader of the aliens, but it seemed as if he had broken it.

In the year 2471, a small community lived an a little piece of land separated from the rest of the barren world-the result of an atomic catastrophe—by a deep ravine, known as the Chasm, Senga, a young crippled girl, was the Scribe for the community of Land Enders. Senga overheard the Councillors admit amongst themselves that famine was inevitable and all the Land Enders were doomed to die. Keeping the fearful secret, ,Senga tried to interest her friends in building a boat, like that of Columbus, for the Land Enders to explore the world in the hope of finding more fertile land.
In the year AD 4069, Velocity Val and her younger brother, Willie-Shazam, have tumbled through a rent in Time and fallen back two thousand one hundred years. Using the powers of Independent Motion, they get mixed up in an air show one day, and Val demonstrates her superiority over ordinary flying machines.

Apollo and Diana, visitors to Earth 4000 years ago, are building a temple for the Dawn People with the help of Niko, a shipwrecked Greek. Designed by Apollo, the temple is a copy of the great astro-computer on Elysia which can tell the seasons and forecast eclipses. After bringing the great 50-ton stones to the site, the Dawn People must now shape the stones. Apollo calls the chiefs to give them the measurements.
Vivienne Ellis is kidnapped by two space aliens who are able to change their own and Vivienne’s shapes at will. Joy Pannell, her friend, helps the police and Professor Hawke to trap the space aliens in a cellar where they are at the mercy of the professor’s laser ray. But the spacemen change themselves and Vivienne into laser machines!
