Wendy Must Win

Plot

It is vital that young Wendy Mason, a pupil at Redwood School for Girls, should win the County Tennis Championship Trophy, as the cup contains part of a map which will help Wendy’s archaeologist father locate an ancient Egyptian tomb. Miss Wilson, a teacher at Redwood, is also determined to win the trophy, as she and her brother, Quentin, wish to find the tomb for their own personal gain. On the day of the semi-finals of the championships, Miss Wilson’s brother tries to make Wendy miss her match by sending her to the wrong courts by means of an anonymous phone call. However, Wendy and her friend, Jill, arrive at the courts in time and go to change. But when they try the changing-room door, they find themselves locked in! wendy must win

Backstroke Babs

Plot

Although  Babs Benton-has been crippled in the car accident that killed her parents, she is an amazingly powerful back-stroke swimmer. Bobs now stays with distant relatives, Mr and Mrs Haxton, and their spiteful daughter, Freda. It suits them very well to have Babs a cripple, because every year they are paid £500 from her parents’ legacy for looking after her. They have stopped her attending classes at a special school and they have forbidden her to swim, but Babs is determined to outwit them. At the pool one morning, the swimming coach, Mr Grant, and his daughter, Sally, realise Bobs has great swimming talent, but they are bewildered when Babs, realising that she may arrive home late, suddenly rushes off.

Big Bertha

Plot

Helen Callander plays hockey for the Greenpark  Grammar school, unfortunately the team isn’t very good and the headmistress, Miss Hatton, decides she will withdraw the team from the League if they don’t improve.  Helen is pondering her problem when she sees Bertha Wardle a secondary girl playing hockey. She thinks with her on the team they have a chance of winning, she just has to get Bertha into Greenpark first.

Cripple Dixie

Plot

Despite having a damaged leg, 14-year-old Dixie Scott  plays an excellent game of tennis. She lives with her father in a cottage on Lady Emily Moore’s estate. Mr Jones, a physiotherapist, thinks he can give Dixie back the full use of her right leg. In her spare time, when Dixie is not playing her ties in the local Ladies’ County Championship, she is receiving treatment from Mr Jones.

Gipsy Lil – The Wild One

Plot

Lil Daniels runs away from her gipsy home because of her father’s cruelty and because he refuses to allow her ever to mix with other girls. There is some strange reason for his behaviour, known only to a mystery man who has a hold over  father. Lil is “adopted” by Janice Grayson, who is trying to find out all she can about Lil’s mysterious background. Miss Chadwick, a former Olympic swimmer, and a friend of Jan’s, is coaching Lil in swimming, at which she excels. Lil, is attending school with Janice, and one day in class she dashes from the room to the surprise of Janice, and the anger of the teacher—because she has seen the Mystery Man coming towards the school.

A Pool for Wendy

Plot:

Wendy Hooper is swimming champion in the making. Unfortunately the only proper swimming bath nearby is a private one owned by Mrs Price-Hilliard, who refuses to let anyone use the pool. When she sees Wendy rescue Jessica, the housekeeper’s daughter from drowning, she sees Wendy’s potential and allows her to use the pool.

Tennis Trouble

Plot

Jenny Milton was furious when her mother remarried because she thought her stepfather wasn’t good enough. Jenny’s mum encouraged Jenny and her stepbrother Tony Smith to play tennis as a doubles team to try to bring both families together.

Trilby Will Be Tops!

Plot

A mysterious woman, Miss Travis, took an interest in Pat Trilby’s sporting career.  By means of hypnosis, Miss Travis was forcing Pat to take part in the qualifying rounds for the Wimbledon tennis championships. Pat’s friend Judy Todd was trying to help free her from Miss Travis’s influence.

No Tennis for Tessa

Plot:

Tessa Lyons once the wondergirl of tennis, was now confined to a wheelchair, living with her family she once ignored. Her father refused to have any mention of tennis in his house, but Tessa sees that her younger sister Alice has the potential to become a tennis player.
