Belle Merrimac and her slave girl Jenny were travelling North during the American Civil War to find Belle’s father and Jenny’s brother, who were prisoners.
When Hannah Perkins and her siblings were orphaned, they went to live with their Uncle who ran an eating house. Uncle Ernest only agreed to keep the children out of the workhouse if Hannah sang to entertain his customers.
Joy Brownlee was worried about her parents. Her mum was an overweight, stay-at home mother, while her father was a sports fanatic who joked about his “middle-aged” wife. When Joy’s friend’s parents split when her father fell for a younger woman, Joy decided to get her mother interested in sport.

In 1882, Abigail Courage is left orphaned after terrible storms flooded the American Flatlands and her house is destroyed. Her dog Sabre also survives the flooding but is stolen from her soon after. Abigail vows to find him and begins a perilous journey across dangerous mountains.
In first story Willa Browne, tries to get a job at a department store selling perfume. She gets locked in at closing and to pass the time she tries on different dresses. The store’s managers see her on the security camera and think she would make a great model. The story follows her modeling career and becoming a successful model.
In the follow up now a fashion model, Willa had converted an old London bus into a boutique and with her friends, Ruth and Jane, had set off on a tour of France to give fashion shows in various towns.

Molly Mason had just left school but she soon found herself a very responsible job as “mother” to fifty unruly lads at Burleigh School for Boys. Despite her slight build she managed the boys better than any of the teachers.
