Spog

Plot

Sally Williams’ friend, a stranded space-traveller, was a dog called Spog! Sally, invited along with her parents to dinner by Sir Richard Langthorpe, discovered Spog in the dining room although she had believed that he was in the town kennels. Before she could get Spog away, someone came into the room.

Goldie – Little Dog Lost

Plot

In 1940 with her father lying in hospital injured after a German air-raid, Lindy Lewis is searching London for Goldie, her pet cocker spaniel, who has run away. Goldie is due to have pups any day. Lindy is living temporarily with Betty Tripp and her family. Betty’s sister, Mary, has lost the power of speech after an air-raid. Mary takes Lindy to a bomb site where she saw a stray spaniel. With the help of Rags, a mongrel Lindy has befriended, she recovers a spaniel puppy from a hide-out under some debris.

Plot:

The Jay family were promoting the products of the Hannibal Hardware Company by following the famous general’s footsteps across Europe and over the Alps. Because Hannibal had originally made the journey with a troop of elephants, the Jays had brought their own elephant, Jumbo, on the journey.

Pet Shop Pauline

Plot

Pauline Peters  had given up her job as a nurse at an animal hospital to run the pet shop she had inherited from the late Miss Manners.

Selma’s Sanctuary

Plot

Selma Jenks’ father is in hospital, and Uncle Tristan takes over the running of his farm. His focus on profit-making threatens Selma’s animal sanctuary, so she turns to animal training to make a profit out of her sanctuary too. But this annoys her rival, Miss Lavinia Leech.

Freckles and her Frog

Plot:

Freckles Wilson, an orphan, lived with her relatives on their farm on  the edge of the Florida Swamps. They treated her cruelly and Freckles’ only friend was a pet frog she called Ferdy. However, Uncle Eli discovered Ferdy was a champion jumper and took him from Freckles to train for contests. After Ferdy was scared away by Aunt Ida, he was found by Brett Corcoran, who claimed him. There was a court case to decide owner-ship and a demonstration of affection between Freckles and Ferdy settled the case in favour of the Wilsons.

Cat’s Eye Cottage

Plot:

Listed as a Spellbound story. There is something strange about Mill Cottage, or “Cat’s Eye Cottage” as the locals call it. Nobody ever rents it for long. The Bailey family rent it for a short holiday. Strange things begin to happen, which are connected with Dad’s paintings, and a mysterious cat shows up.

The Forbidden Beach

Plot

Alison Cooper is staying with a distant relative, “Aunt” Moira Hewitt. Alison finds the house  creepy and Aunt Moira is behaving strangely, in that she has banned Alison from the beach in front of the house and won’t say why. Alison disobeys orders to rescue a baby seal, which she has kept hidden and named Flippers. But a well-meaning photographer takes a photograph of Alison and Flippers on the beach, and Alison’s secret is in danger when he pushes the best shot through the mail slot.

Meg of the Moors

Plot

Gwen Morgan takes over a sheepdog named Meg, who needs taming or she will be destroyed. Gwen and Meg return in several sequels.

In the sequel Gwen’s ambition was to be “Champion of the Mountains”  a title given to a champion fell runner, but she hurt her ankle and was working hard to recover.
