“I Don’t Want to be a Lady!”

Plot:

When orphan Becky Marsh found a valuable ring and returned it to Danvers Hall, she was dismayed to find herself kept prisoner there’ Elderly Miss Danvers and her three servants told Becky that she was to be brought up to be a lady. Becky decided that her best plan was to wait until there was a good chance to escape.

The Face of Romany Fortune

Plot:

A great mystery surrounded model Romany Fortune, who had arrived, out of nowhere, at the studio of top fashion photographer, Justin Harrington. Romany had predicted the death of Justin’s top model Dee Marlowe in a car crash, and had then taken over an important assignment meant for Dee.

Tanya [1977]

Plot

When Laurie Latimer opens a ballet school, she discovers a young gipsy girl, Tanya, running wild in the wilderness of the grounds. Because of her talent for dancing, Tanya is invited to join the ballet school. Then one of the girls, Charlotte Benson, finds a locket of Tanya’s and discovers photographs inside, one of Tanya as a baby and finds out she may be her lost cousin.

Whatever Became of Betsy?

Plot

Newspaper reporter Sally Blair got a shock when  she met her missing friend, Betsy Holbrook. Betsy, with bleached hair and glasses, insisted she was a girl named Rosemary Truscott. Sally’s troubles were only starting however. The mysterious Carol Truscott and her mother seized Sally and locked her in a cellar at the house known as the Old Mill.

Revenge of the Black Swan

Plot:

Sent to stay with her Aunt Adele in a  village on the Norfolk Broads, Karen Briery walked into a sinister situation. Her Aunt Adele was being held prisoner, and while Karen was in the act of rescuing her, the villagers were holding a meeting, deciding how to get rid of Karen. A strange black swan had befriended Karen, and when her rescue of Aunt Adele went wrong the Black Swan appeared to help them.

The Secret of the Red Balloons

Plot

Children are mysteriously going missing. Jo Baker and her friend Jean Simpson discover that a man at a fair is selling red balloons that children can inflate to such sizes that they are literally flying away on them. Jo is shocked to see that one of the latest children to fly away is her sister Lucy.

Mystery at Mirov

Plot

Nadia Fabrie is the daughter of world-famous ballerina Anna Rulinska, who had abandoned her as a baby and then died in a crash. After the death of Nadia’s father, a mysterious benefactor gives Nadia the money to buy Mirov Ballet School. But the school is rundown and needs repairs, and Nadia is trying to come up with a way to save it.

The Mystery of Mavora

Plot

Shirley Duffield is on holiday at her grandfather’s cottage beside the sea. She becomes fascinated by Mavora, a rock that looks like a mermaid combing her hair and beckoning. Legend has it that Mavora has lured many seamen to their deaths, and Shirley is now hearing strange voices that come from the direction of the rock. Then Shirley finds a comb that suggests that there may have been a real mermaid.
