Shadow of the Ice-Palace

Plot

Susan Taylor wins the leading part in a new ice-ballet. But strange, frightening incidents begin to happen and they are accompanied by the appearances a cloaked, masked figure who can also hypnotise Susan.

The Mystery of Mavora

Plot

Shirley Duffield is on holiday at her grandfather’s cottage beside the sea. She becomes fascinated by Mavora, a rock that looks like a mermaid combing her hair and beckoning. Legend has it that Mavora has lured many seamen to their deaths, and Shirley is now hearing strange voices that come from the direction of the rock. Then Shirley finds a comb that suggests that there may have been a real mermaid.

Is He My Dad?

Plot

Kay Paxton’s father crash-landed in Russia and was imprisoned for seven years. He has now returned, but Colonel McLintock of the British Secret Service has warned Kay that the man may be an imposter and Russian spy. She is to keep an eye on him and report anything unusual. Kay’s spying has her not knowing one way or the other about the man claiming to be her father.

The Girl with No Shadow

Plot

When Reyna Reynolds moves into the empty house next door to Jan Crawford, strange things start happening. The strangest of them all is that Reyna casts no shadow. Jan decides to pretend to be friends with Reyna in order to unravel her secret, although Reyna causes a lot of trouble for Jan.

Brand of the Wolf

Plot

After her father’s death in what everyone thought was a  hit-and-run accident while he was guarding the sheep against rustlers, Helga Whitleaf ran their farm with her Aunt Jessie. Her German Shepherd dog, Wolf, attacked Charlie Norman, a wealthy neighbouring farmer, and Helga began to suspect that the man had had a hand in her father’s death. While searching for proof at the Norman farm, she was seen leaving. Next morning, the village heard that the rustlers had struck again, and that a lamb had been found savaged to death. The villagers thought Wolf had done it.

One Girl and her Dog [1983]

Plot

A peaceful loch-side had been horrifically interrupted when mysterious killers staged an “accident”, from which the only survivors were a girl who had lost her memory and the dog she relied on to protect her. Now the girl and her dog were walking down a shadowy street in a northern city.

The Girl Who Vanished

Plot

When Denise Pender went to Blair School, she expected to find her cousin, Kathy Longren, head prefect there. To Denise’s puzzlement, everyone denied all knowledge of Kathy. However, some clever detective work by Denise led her to a small room where Kathy found her cousin. As they came face to face, Denise gasped in horror, as Kathy’s face was covered in hair!

“Who Am I?”

Plot

In 1847 a young girl runs away and slips and hits her head. She wakes up with no memory, in a grand house, where a woman claims she is her daughter, Lady Caroline. But flashes of a memory and a conversation she overhears makes her think she was told a lie so she goes on a hunt to find out who she is.

The Mystery of Room 13

Plot

Jill and Claire Cameron had been invited to  London by their older cousin, Miriam Hill, to watch a royal wedding. The girls booked into a hotel, but the next morning, Miriam had vanished. Not only had Miriam disappeared, but so had her room — Room 13.
