Servant of the Sacred Dogs / Maid of the Lion Dogs

Plot:

In ancient China, Linyi is maid of the Chinese Emperor’s Dogs, known as the Lion Dogs. She faces big trouble if anything happens to them – and each week, something does (illness, being naughty, going missing etc) – and she has to use quick wits to solve the problem as fast as possible.

Meg’s Mob

Plot

In World War II, a Home Guard is formed on the island of Worsley. Its leader is Lady Amelia Crabtree, but her parlourmaid, Meg Parkinson, does all the organising. And there is jealousy in the form of Commandant Matilda Golightly of the Land Army, who is angry she was not put in charge of Worsley’s defences.

Sonia’s Secret [1978]

Plot:

Sonia Rostova is the prima ballerina of the Russian Imperial Ballet, which is on tour through Russia. Throughout the tour, Sonia has to hide Pavel, who is being pursued by Boris Shepin of the secret police for a crime he did not commit. And Shepin has infiltrated the ballet troupe by becoming director.

Hedda of Hosannah Valley

Plot:

Amos Calthorp and his party of pilgrims had reached the sheltered vale in America which he named “Hosannah Valley”.  America was still a British Colony and the settlers were given grants of land where they immediately set about building houses. Hedda Bronsby’s father, Daniel, was in demand, being a skilled carpenter.

Megan of the Magic Lantern

Plot:

In the 19th century, Megan Hughes and her grandfather go in search of Megan’s mother Olwen, who had disappeared from home many years ago after her husband and other children died. Grandfather and Megan use their magic lantern shows to aid the search by always showing audiences a picture of Olwen. Eventually a boy recognises her as “The Ghost Lady”, who haunts the coal mines at Maesglas.
