Plot:
Tania Jensen, following clues in an ancient parchment, is trying to find the Magic Drum of Thor, a relic of the Lapp people. The Jensens have been blamed for losing the drum and Tania is determined to clear the family name She has gone only a short distance on her pet reindeer, Saga, when a trip-rope throws her to the ground and knocks her out.
It is the year 1189 and King Henry II has just died. Young Lady Maud of Norton has been entrusted by a wounded messenger with the task of taking the Royal Crown to London and Prince Richard. Prince John is trying to capture the crown for, without it, Richard cannot be King. For safety, Maud has the crown, of distinctive reddish gold, melted down and made into shoes for Starlight, her horse.
Helen Hill, the senior orphan at Maltbay Manor, learns that young Connie Page a new arrival at the orphanage, will go blind soon unless Sir Edwin Savern, a famous surgeon, can be found. He is the only person that can perform the surgery but he has recently disappeared. Helen and Connie set out to try and find him.
Blind Billy Burke and his sister Anne, are in Scotland searching for long lost father, who it is believed , has lost his memory.
Bonny and Cly, the big Clydsdale horse, had a spell put on them by Whirlin the Wizard. They were banished until they found the Golden Gooseberry. As part of the spell, Bonny could understand what Cly was saying.
Gita Jones was determined to play her guitar and earn her fare to America in the hopes of finding her father.
Maisie Mercury was banished from the School of Gods to Earth because she was badly behaved. She was set a number of tasks by Jupiter, the chief god. She was doing well , but she didn’t realise her school teacher, Somnus, was trying to sabotage her efforts so that she wouldn’t return to his classroom. She returns in other stories where she is put in charge of new wishing well, and another time a crystal ball, but again a rival tries to strip her of her post.
