Plot

In the 1800s, young Sarah Brown worked with scores of other unfortunate children in a coal mine. Only the hope that she might find a clue in the mine to prove that her father had not caused the disastrous explosion in which six men had been killed, enabled her to continue to work in the dreadful conditions in the pit. Her father, Jeremy Brown, had lost his memory in the accident and Sarah had to look after him in addition to earning a living.

A Dog Called Lucky

Plot

Becky Willis owned a dog which she had saved from the local dog-pound. He was always getting into scrapes and had become rather unpopular with her family. Becky discovered he was deaf, she was determined to save up enough money for an operation to restore his hearing and turn his luck around, so she called him Lucky.

Plot

Mo Miles, the daughter of a rag-and-bone man, is an ace tennis player. She is invited to join a posh tennis club after finding a valuable ring lost by a club member. Nonetheless, she and her father meet constant discrimination from the snobby club members, even when she starts winning tournaments for them. However, Mo can prove she is a match for all opposition, both on and off the tennis court.

Vera and the Voice

Plot

During the Second World War, young Vera Kendal had a very important job. She helped the British Secret Service by reporting radio messages from a secret agent in France code-named Taurus. Vera using code name White Knight, used an old crystal wireless set she found in the attic and because of her super sensitive hearing, she was the only one able to pick up the messages from Taurus.

Lynn and the Lady in Black

Plot

Twelve year old Lynn lived in Endervale Orphange. While exporing an old house nearby she met a strange veiled lady.  She at first mistook Lynn for her daughter who had died three years previously in a road accident. She had been Dame Elizabeth Dophan a famous concert pianist but since the accident had cut herself off from the outside world, with only her housekeeper Mrs Hacker, for company. Lynn continued to visit the dame in the hope she could get her playing piano again and bring her happiness.

Queen of Koko Island

Plot

Young Sally Samson was made Queen of Koko Island because she looked like the statue of ancient Queen Sooki, a former ruler. She was advised by the prime minister, Yoboko, and Sally’s aunt and uncle and her circus family circus had come along to the island too and helped out when difficulties arose.
