Gateway to the Past

Plot

Cathy Brown had found a secret way into the past through a mysterious gateway in the local park. Arriving in 1910, Cathy made a friend, Emma Seymour, who was the only person able to see Cathy. Together they were searching for Emma’s mother.

The Trouble with Iris

Plot

After being injured in an accident, orphan Jo Ashton was given a new lease of life by Dr Mabe, who placed his invention, the ” Increased Reflex and Intelligence Stimulator “, in her brain. The stimulator. known as ” Iris ”  for short, gave Jo super-human strength and intelligence. When Dr Mabe decided to tell the world about his miracle patient. Jo realised that the Welfare Authorities would discover she was an orphan, and put her in a home—so she ran away.

Plot

Gwen Farrow and Sue Blake were both good  tennis players, but that was all they had in common. Gwen considered Sue to be tough and bad-mannered, while Sue thought Gwen was a stuck-up snob! Both girls were hoping to win the Junior County Championships. .

Plot

Heather Gray a junior member of the Merewood Athletic Club was hoping to wi

n the Young Athlete of the Year award. Then a strange cat named Sheba moved in with the family and made life very difficult fr Heather. Sheba the last descendant of the Sacred Cats of Egypt had chosen Heather as her handmaid – and Heather couldn’t refuse, as Sheba had mysterious powers to make people do what she wished.

Polly’s Piglet

Plot

When Polly Hicks won Porky, a porker piglet, she decided to keep him as a pet. Polly was not allowed to keep pets in the flats where she lived, so Porky’s home was a dog kennel in Mr Smith’s waste paper yard. But providing a piglet with the right sort of food was proving a problem.

Slave of the Dancing Dolls / My Pal Pedro!

Plot

When her grandfather died, Mitzi Conrad’s aunt and uncle, Lena and Lenny Higgs, became her guardians. Their only interest in Mitzi was the money she could earn with her skill with her puppets. Mitzi’s sole friend was Pedro, an unusual puppet made by her grandfather just before he died.

Kim at Adventure Academy

Plot

Kim Ashton, a young teacher,  worked at Eagle Crag School, a special school for troublesome children. It was run by Mr and Mrs Farne and their daughter, Jean. Mr Besant, a neighbour of the Farnes, was trying to get the school closed down so that he could buy their land cheaply. A public enquiry about the school was to be held, starting with a visit by inspectors from the Education Department.

A Miracle for Miriam

Plot

Miriam, a young Hebrew girl, had been carried off to Syria and became a slave in the house of Naaman, the famous captain of the King of Syria’s army. Naaman suffered from the terrible, incurable disease of leprosy, but no-one was allowed to speak of this on pain of death. But Miriam felt very sorry for Naaman, who had been kind to her. She told his wife that in Israel there was a holy man called Elisha, who worked miracles and who could cure Naaman of his leprosy.

In the Footsteps of Flighty/ Tug-o’-War for Flighty

Plot

Corina Clewes lived in Ireland and she wanted to one day to win three day events horse show if she could find a suitable horse. Her Uncle Lenny promised her one his foals and Corina helped train him over the years and was ready to take him home, when tragically Lenny was killed in an accident. All his farm and assets had to be sold off to cover debts. Because there was no written proof that he had gifted Flighty to Corina, Flighty was auctioned off and Corina’s family were outbid. But Corina was not going to give up on Flighty.
