Cherry’s Challenge

Plot

Fourteen year old Cherry Smith helped her parents run their small farm. Her best chum was a colt named Fancy that she helped break in.  Cherry was trying to form a team to enter gymkhana events.

The Courage of Crippled Clara

Plot

Mary Jordon had made friends with Clara Thornton, the frail, crippled daughter of the village squire. Clara begged Mary to teach  her how to ride a pony and Mary reluctantly agreed. But when the villagers find out, they react badly towards Mary.

Plot:

Pat Fraser was acting as groom for her sister, Brenda an international show-jumper, while she was on tour in Tarlania. During the tour, the dethroned King asked Pat to smuggle his daughter out of the country. Although disguised as another groom called Sara, snooty Princess Saria did no work to help Pat.

Jumpers’ Journey

Plot

While escorting two valuable horses to Rome,  young grooms, Vicky Redman and Paula Page’s plane is hi-jacked and taken to northern Greece. The passengers are safely transported to Athens but there was no suitable transport for the horses. So the girls decide to stay with the horses and ride to Athens themselves. They have a difficult time when they encounter bandits and also when the horses go missing.

Kay of the 5 Horse-Shoes / Kay Hamilton – Show Jumper

Plot:

Kay  Hamilton was the youngest member of staff at at a famous riding school – The 5 Horse-Shoes. She had proven herself gifted at handling horses so Hector Deane, the owner, had decided to let her try her skill in the show ring.

Kay returns in a sequel in Kay Hamilton- Show Jumper. She is still the only girl groom at the 5 Horse-Shoes and she wished to train and ride a show-jumper of her own. Against Mr Deane’s wishes she buys with her own money an old champion White Star that had been sold off for slaughter. She tried to prove to Mr Deane that White Star could be a star show-jumper, and he agrees to let her house her at the stable but she will have to pay the same as any other client.

The Silver Saddle

Plot

Janet Marlow, from Australia, was staying with her Aunt Helen  who owned a famous strain of Arabian horses which had been bred by the family for generations. She also owned a silver saddle bearing shields inscribed with the names of the riders and their Arabian mounts who had performed notable deeds. Janet begged her aunt to tell her the story behind each shield.

Tom Came Too

Plot

Spoilt, selfish Philippa Graham was  thrilled when her aunt Pat agreed to pay for her education at exclusive Marston Manor Boarding School. However, there was one condition —that Philippa should learn to ride and care for Aunt Pat’s horse, Tom. Philippa didn’t object to this until she discovered that Tom was a huge, ungainly carthorse and all the other girls had beautiful thoroughbreds. Now she was desperate to be rid of him.
